		<description>Great to read this confirmation of an idea I made up as I plan for my new chickens.  I intend to put a couple of half oak barrels in the chicken yard and grow kale and spinach or chard in them, covered with wire, just as mentioned.  I will add purslane as suggested.  I also plan to use an old wooden box with holes in the bottom to make compost - a few inches of dirt, and then offer garden trimmings and kitchen veg scraps in the box for the hens to scratch, eat, and poop - making compost for me, contained in the box.  All of this is in my head, so far.  I&#039;ll let you know how it works out.</description>
